Major Setback for India as Shreyas Iyer Injured Taking Carey’s Catch

Star Batsman Exits Field After Awkward Landing, Adding to India’s Injury Woes

India, Oct 25 : India vice captain Shreyas Iyer suffered an injury while attempting a spectacular catch during the third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Saturday.

The mishap occurred on the fourth ball of the 34th over when Alex Carey miscued a shot. Sprinting from backward point, Shreyas leapt to take the catch, successfully ending a 59-run partnership, but landed awkwardly on his left side. The 22 year old remained on the ground, clearly in pain, as teammates and the medical staff rushed to his aid. He eventually walked off the field with assistance. Carey, reprieved earlier off Kuldeep Yadav, had scored 24(37) before being dismissed.

Shreyas becomes the latest addition to India’s injury concerns, following all rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who missed the match due to a left quadriceps injury sustained in the second ODI at Adelaide. India captain Shubman Gill confirmed two changes in the playing XI: Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Yadav replacing Arshdeep Singh and Nitish Reddy. The BCCI continues to monitor Nitish’s recovery closely.

The injury raises concerns for India ahead of the remainder of the series, with the team already dealing with fitness issues among key players.
