Jammu, Dec 23: Slamming National Conference (NC) MP Aga Ruhullah Mehdi’s recent protest over reservation policies, senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta termed the demonstration a “friendly match,” orchestrated to deceive the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a press statement issued here today, Kavinder Gupta minced no words in exposing the hypocrisy of the NC, accusing the party of failing its own people during its decades-long rule in J&K. “For over 60 years, the National Conference had every opportunity to uplift marginalized communities like Gujjars and Paharis but chose instead to indulge in dynastic politics and exploit the masses for electoral gains. The same party, which ignored the cries of the oppressed, is now shedding crocodile tears in the name of reservation. It is nothing but political theater to regain lost ground,” he stated firmly.
Calling Ruhullah’s protest a “desperate gimmick,” the senior BJP leader questioned the moral authority of the NC to speak on issues of social justice. “Where was this concern for equality and rationalization of reservations when the NC was in power? Why didn’t they implement policies to empower marginalized communities or promote merit-based opportunities? The answer is simple: they were busy securing their own interests, leaving the common people to fend for themselves,” he thundered.
Kavinder lauded the BJP-led Central Government for its historic decisions, including granting reservations to Pahari-speaking people, aimed at fostering inclusivity and addressing decades of inequality. “Unlike the NC, which thrived on empty promises, the BJP believes in actions that transform lives. The inclusion of Pahari-speaking people in the reservation framework is a testament to our commitment to justice and equality,” he added.
The former Deputy CM also criticized the NC’s strategy of exploiting public sentiments to stay relevant in the political landscape. “This so-called protest is a calculated move to manipulate the emotions of the people. The NC is attempting to create a smokescreen to hide its failure and blame others for the very issues they created,” he remarked.
Urging the people to see through the NC’s “malicious propaganda,” Kavinder assured that the BJP would continue to work tirelessly to uplift all sections of society, particularly those neglected by previous regimes. “We are here to deliver results, not engage in theatrics. The BJP’s vision for J&K is clear: development, inclusivity, and justice for all. No amount of NC’s hollow protests can derail this mission,” he added.
