BJP Calls It a Historic Blueprint for Inclusive Growth

BHUBANESWAR, Feb 21 : The ruling BJP on Friday hailed the Odisha Budget 2026-27, presented by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, as a transformative and inclusive financial plan aimed at accelerating the state’s long term development.

State BJP president Manmohan Samal described the budget as the largest in Odisha’s history, stating that it outlines a comprehensive roadmap aligned with the vision of a “Samrudha Odisha.” He said the financial plan introduces 16 new welfare schemes with targeted support for farmers, women, youth and economically weaker sections.

Among the key announcements highlighted were a Rs 5,000 crore revolving fund for paddy procurement, expansion of skill development centres, establishment of universities in four districts, and development of industrial infrastructure including a pharma park, med tech park and shipbuilding cluster. Samal said the measures reflect the commitment of the “double engine” government to balanced and sector wide progress.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan termed the budget forward looking and welfare-oriented. He welcomed proposals for new universities, engineering colleges and World Skill Centres, saying these would enhance educational opportunities and improve youth employability. He also pointed to plans for economic clusters in western and southern Odisha, including the Bargarh-Jharsuguda-Sambalpur belt, and infrastructure projects such as the Burla ring road and expansion of the Jamadarpali airstrip.

Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said the allocations in education, healthcare, agriculture and cultural heritage would strengthen economic foundations. He added that initiatives like smart farm markets and expanded social welfare programmes aim to bolster rural development.

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida emphasised the focus on women and child welfare, citing schemes such as Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangal Yojana and Subhadra initiatives. She said investments in tourism and cultural infrastructure would further support sustainable growth.

The BJP leadership collectively described the Odisha Budget 2026-27 as a structured and long-term development framework designed to address both immediate welfare needs and future economic ambitions.
