Manoj Sinha Stresses Public Role in Ending Terrorism, Commends Forces’ Efforts

Says peace has returned to J&K, praises security forces for eliminating top terror commanders

Srinagar, Sep 27: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday stressed that while security forces and the administration are fulfilling their duties, the ultimate responsibility of ending terrorism lies with the people of the Union Territory as well.

Speaking at an event in Srinagar, Sinha said terrorism has been drastically reduced across the country and is now limited to a few regions, including parts of Jammu and Kashmir. “North-East is largely terror free. Left-wing extremism is confined to a few districts and will be eliminated soon. In J&K too, terror must be rooted out completely as it hinders development and job creation,” he said.

The LG noted that the security situation in J&K has improved significantly, with street violence and stone pelting becoming “a thing of the past.” He highlighted that no top commander of any major terror outfit is alive in the region and only one local youth has joined militant ranks this year.

Referring to Pakistan, Sinha said the neighbouring country has consistently resorted to proxy wars and radicalisation after failing in four direct wars with India. He emphasised the heavy toll of terrorism, with more than 40,000 lives lost, and urged citizens not to support any activity that could fuel violence “either intentionally or unintentionally.”

Sinha also warned against narratives echoing those of banned terror outfits like The Resistance Front (TRF). “When our statements sound similar to TRF propaganda, it causes immense damage,” he said.
