MATHURA, Dec 16: Four people were killed and at least 25 others injured in a massive vehicle pile-up on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura district early Tuesday morning, police officials said.
The accident occurred around 4.30 am under the jurisdiction of Baldev Police Station when at least seven buses and several smaller vehicles collided amid dense fog on the Agra to Noida carriageway of the expressway.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mathura Shlok Kumar said poor visibility due to fog led to the collision, causing some of the vehicles to catch fire. “Four people died in the accident and 25 were injured. All the injured have been shifted to hospitals for treatment,” he said.
Visuals from the accident site showed several buses reduced to charred remains. Cranes were deployed to remove the damaged vehicles and clear the roadway.
Authorities arranged government vehicles to transport stranded passengers to their destinations. Traffic on the stretch remained disrupted for several hours, with diversions put in place to manage the flow of vehicles.
Further details are awaited.
