Lucknow, Oct 09 : In a major political resurgence, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati marked the death anniversary of party founder Kanshi Ram with a massive rally in Lucknow, her first public appearance in the city in nearly a decade.
The event, held at Ambedkar Maidan, drew lakhs of supporters from Uttar Pradesh as well as neighboring states including Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh. Analysts view the rally as the BSP’s opening move for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, aiming to rejuvenate the party’s dwindling political influence.
Strategically designed, the venue featured two stages one for Mayawati alongside seven prominent leaders representing the party’s social engineering agenda, and another for regional coordinators. Political observers suggest the strong turnout, with significant participation from women and children, reflects Mayawati’s renewed effort to mobilize grassroots support.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while paying floral tribute to Kanshi Ram, acknowledged him as “the powerful voice of the deprived, oppressed, and marginalized.” In posts on X, Yogi highlighted the BJP-led government’s development initiatives, including operational and upcoming airports, expanded expressways, and a growing railway network, showcasing Uttar Pradesh’s “infrastructure revolution.”
The rally is seen as a pivotal moment for Mayawati, signaling her intent to reclaim political space in the state and reinvigorate the BSP’s base ahead of the high stakes 2027 elections.
