LUCKNOW, Oct 8 — In a major push to reclaim her party’s lost political ground, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati is set to hold a massive rally at the Kanshi Ram Memorial Ground in Lucknow on October 9, marking the death anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram. The event, dubbed her “comeback rally,” is being seen as a crucial step in reviving BSP’s political influence in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 assembly elections.
Scheduled to begin at 9 AM, the rally will also outline BSP’s strategy for the upcoming Bihar Assembly polls. Party sources say the event will mark Mayawati’s return to full scale political activity after a prolonged lull.
The BSP has set an ambitious target of mobilizing over five lakh supporters from all 403 assembly constituencies across the state. Each constituency has been directed to send at least five vehicles filled with participants, while district officials and assembly in charges have been assigned clear responsibilities to ensure large-scale turnout.
For the first time in years, Mayawati will share the stage with seven senior leaders, including her brother Anand Kumar, nephew and National Coordinator Aakash Anand, and National General Secretary Satish Chandra Mishra signaling unity and succession readiness within the party.
Party insiders suggest the event will also serve as the official political re-launch of Aakash Anand in Uttar Pradesh, aimed at energizing Dalit youth and reinforcing the BSP’s future leadership structure. Unlike previous rallies where Mayawati was the sole speaker, she is expected to allow others to address the gathering, reflecting a more collective leadership approach.
New slogans such as “Ration nahi, Shasan chahiye Lucknow chalo” (We don’t want ration, we want governance – Let’s go to Lucknow) and “Dalit, Pichhda, Alpashankhyak ki Awaaz, Bahujan Samaj ka Naya Aagaaz” (Voice of Dalits, Backwards, and Minorities – A new beginning for Bahujan Samaj) have already started trending across posters, social media, and village-level meetings.
After the rally, Mayawati is expected to hold private interactions with district-level party representatives to gather ground feedback and finalize the BSP’s forward strategy.
The BSP’s organizational wings including BAMCEF and BVF have been tasked with crowd and traffic management, while a dedicated logistics team will oversee route coordination and parking arrangements.
Mayawati’s renewed outreach comes at a time when BSP faces its toughest political challenge. The party, which once commanded a full majority in Uttar Pradesh in 2007, won only one seat in the 2022 assembly polls and none in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. With Dalit and backward caste voters increasingly aligning with the Congress-SP alliance, Mayawati’s Lucknow rally is seen as a decisive effort to reclaim her party’s traditional support base and project a new beginning for the Bahujan movement.
