SRINAGAR, Mar 27: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Friday took strong exception to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah over what she described as a delayed response in condemning Israel’s military action against Iran. She termed the nearly month-long gap in issuing a clear statement as “disheartening.”
Earlier in the day, Abdullah addressed the Legislative Assembly and condemned what he called an “unjust and illegal war imposed on Iran.” He also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to use diplomatic channels to help bring an end to the conflict in the interest of global peace.
Expressing condolences, the chief minister referred to the loss of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and others who lost their lives during the hostilities.
Reacting sharply, Mufti said in a post on X that it was disappointing the statement came so late, especially given the sensitivity of the issue. She contrasted the response with that of the Punjab Assembly, which she noted acted promptly by passing a resolution condemning the attack and expressing solidarity with Iran.
Mufti further alleged that the Jammu and Kashmir administration lacked urgency, accusing it of relying on statements rather than taking a firm and timely position on the matter.
