21-06-2023 : Mehbooba Mufti, the President of the People’s Democratic Party and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), expressed her views on the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, stating that it presents a “golden opportunity” for the people of Kashmir to demonstrate the true essence of Kashmiriyat once again.
According to Mufti, Kashmir has always been a proponent of brotherhood and unity, deeply ingrained in its age-old tradition. Therefore, she believes that the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra provides a perfect platform for Kashmiris to showcase the genuine spirit of Kashmiriyat.
Mufti revealed that she had convened a meeting with party leaders from the districts of Anantnag and Ganderbal to discuss their role in ensuring the smooth conduct of the Yatra. She directed workers from these districts to assist and warmly welcome the devotees participating in the Yatra. Her appeal to the party cadres was to extend their support and hospitality, ensuring that the pilgrims do not face any inconvenience during their visit.
Additionally, Mufti called upon the government to address the concerns of the local population during the Yatra period. She emphasized the need for creating an atmosphere where the residents of Kashmir do not feel inconvenienced. In previous years, she highlighted the challenges faced by locals, including pregnant women delivering babies on the roadside due to travel difficulties. She urged the government to take adequate measures to alleviate such issues and prioritize the well-being of the local population.
The annual Amarnath Yatra for the year 2023 is scheduled to commence on July 1st and will span two months. The Jammu and Kashmir Government has made substantial arrangements to ensure the smooth and successful conduct of the Yatra, taking into account the needs and requirements of the pilgrims.
