Srinagar, Oct 27: In a significant move following the recent Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (JKPDP) President Mehbooba Mufti has dissolved the entire party structure with immediate effect. Speaking at the JKPDP headquarters in Srinagar on Friday, Mufti announced that the reformation of office bearers and key organizational wings would take place after extensive discussions with senior party members.
The former Chief Minister’s decision comes in the wake of the assembly elections held in September and October. Acknowledging the results, Mufti extended her congratulations to the National Conference-Congress alliance for achieving what she described as a clear and decisive mandate from the people. “The people have given their mandate in a way that leaves no room for manipulation or interference. I’m pleased to see this outcome. If the mandate had been inconclusive, there could have been attempts to undermine the people’s decision,” Mufti commented.
Reflecting on the election results, which saw the National Conference win 42 seats, the BJP secure 29, the Congress 6, and the PDP 3, Mufti commended the resilience of her party’s supporters and campaigners. “I deeply appreciate the unwavering efforts of PDP leaders and workers throughout the campaign. They have stood by the party despite formidable challenges, and I urge them to continue with this dedication,” she said, encouraging party members to remain steadfast.
During her address, Mufti emphasized the importance of stability in Jammu and Kashmir’s political landscape, especially given the complexities since August 5, 2019, which brought significant changes to the region’s status. “The people of Jammu and Kashmir have faced many trials. Establishing a stable government is a step toward addressing their pressing issues,” she asserted.
The recent three-phase elections, held on September 18, 26, and October 1, saw voters turn out in large numbers across the Union Territory.
