Mehbooba Mufti Raises AIIMS Awantipora Delay With JP Nadda, Urges Swift Completion

PDP chief highlights urgent healthcare needs in Jammu and Kashmir, seeks early operationalisation of the premier medical institute.

Srinagar, Jun 6: PDP president and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday appealed to Union Health Minister JP Nadda to accelerate the pace of work on the AIIMS Awantipora project, stressing the need for its early completion to strengthen healthcare services in the region.

Sharing details of the interaction on social media, Mufti said she had requested the Union Minister to ensure that the prestigious medical institution is completed within the planned schedule and made functional at the earliest. According to her, Nadda responded positively and assured that the project would be completed on time.

The PDP leader noted that the establishment of AIIMS Awantipora is crucial for improving access to advanced healthcare facilities in Jammu and Kashmir. She acknowledged the efforts of the workforce engaged at the construction site and appreciated their commitment to meeting project targets.

Mufti, however, underlined the growing pressure on the healthcare sector across the Union Territory and said the commissioning of the institute would significantly enhance the availability of specialised treatment and medical services for residents.

She expressed hope that the facility would soon begin operations, reducing the burden on existing hospitals and providing patients with access to quality healthcare closer to home. The project is expected to emerge as a major healthcare and medical education hub for the region once completed.
