Mehbooba Mufti flags concerns over J&K students’ safety in Iran, calls for immediate action

SRINAGAR, Mar 7: Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to facilitate the safe return of students from Jammu and Kashmir who are currently stranded in Iran.

In a post on X, Mufti, a former Chief Minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed concern over what she described as a rapidly deteriorating situation in Iran. She said thousands of students from the Union Territory, who are pursuing their studies there, are facing uncertainty and distress.

Calling for urgent intervention, Mehbooba urged the Prime Minister to take up the matter personally to ensure the students’ safe passage back home. She also appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs and External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar to initiate evacuation measures at the earliest.

The PDP chief’s appeal comes amid growing anxiety among families in Jammu and Kashmir, many of whom have been seeking timely assistance and clear updates regarding the safety and movement of students abroad.
