Mumbai, May 06 : Michael continues to perform steadily at the Indian box office as the musical biopic approaches the end of its second week in cinemas. Led by Jaafar Jackson, the film has earned an India gross total of Rs 49.26 crore by Day 13, emerging as one of the better-performing international releases in the country this year.
The film has maintained audience interest despite facing weekday slowdowns, showing stable occupancy and consistent footfall across major urban centres. Trade reports suggest that the movie’s emotional storytelling and musical appeal have contributed to its sustained theatrical run.
India Net Collection Reaches Rs 41.15 Crore
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film’s India net collection currently stands at Rs 41.15 crore. The movie witnessed encouraging business during its second weekend before settling into a routine weekday pattern.
On its second Sunday, Day 10, the biographical drama collected Rs 4.40 crore while recording around 30 percent occupancy across 1,129 shows nationwide. Collections dipped on Monday as the film earned Rs 1.60 crore from 1,229 screenings, with occupancy averaging 21 percent.
Day 12 brought a slight rise in earnings as the movie added Rs 1.70 crore through 1,332 shows, although overall occupancy slipped to nearly 12 percent. Despite weekday fluctuations, the film has managed to remain stable and continues to attract fans of Michael Jackson’s music and legacy.
Antoine Fuqua’s Directorial Gains Global Attention
Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the musical biopic has also generated strong buzz internationally. The film has performed particularly well in the United States while receiving a favourable response in India and several overseas markets.
The story traces the extraordinary rise of Michael Jackson from his childhood days with the Jackson 5 to becoming one of the most celebrated entertainers in music history. The narrative captures key moments from his journey as a singer, songwriter, dancer, and global icon.
Widely known as the “King of Pop,” Michael Jackson’s influence on modern music and stage performance remains unmatched, and the film attempts to showcase both his artistic brilliance and his complicated personal journey.
Jaafar Jackson Receives Praise for Transformative Performance
One of the strongest highlights of the film has been Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal of his late uncle. Critics and audiences alike have praised his striking resemblance to Michael Jackson, particularly his dance style, expressions, vocal delivery, and stage presence.
The film also features impressive performances from Juliano Valdi, who plays young Michael, along with Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson. Supporting performances from Nia Long and Miles Teller have also been appreciated for adding emotional depth to the narrative.
Critical Response Remains Mixed
While the film has succeeded commercially, critical reception has been divided. The Times of India’s ETimes awarded the movie 2.5 out of 5 stars, praising the performances but noting that the screenplay only briefly explores Michael Jackson’s creative genius and musical innovation.
Reviewers observed that although the film recreates the spectacle and grandeur associated with the pop legend, it sometimes avoids delving deeply into the complexities behind his artistry and personal life. However, Jaafar Jackson’s performance has largely been considered the film’s emotional and visual anchor.
‘Michael’ Continues to Draw Fans to Cinemas
Despite mixed reviews, the film’s strong musical nostalgia and emotional appeal continue to attract moviegoers. With steady collections entering its second week, the biopic remains one of the most talked-about international theatrical releases currently playing in India.
Industry experts believe the movie could cross the Rs 50 crore mark in India shortly if weekday collections remain stable over the coming days.
