Michigan Church Shooting Leaves 2 Dead, 9 Injured

Gunman drives car into church, opens fire during Sunday service; police confirm suspect killed in exchange of fire

Grand Blanc, Michigan, Sept 29 — At least two people were killed and nine others injured in a church shooting in Michigan, when a gunman opened fire during a service at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints on Sunday.

Police said the 40 year old attacker drove his car into the church before firing at the crowd. A fire broke out soon after, which officials believe was “deliberately set” by the suspect.

Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Renye confirmed that the shooter was killed by law enforcement after an exchange of gunfire. Two of the injured remain in critical condition and are being treated at local hospitals.

Emergency services worked for hours to extinguish the blaze that engulfed the church. Earlier, police had urged residents to avoid the area as rescue operations continued.

US President Donald Trump called the incident a “horrendous” act, while Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer said her heart was “breaking for the Grand Blanc community,” stressing that “violence anywhere, especially in a place of worship, is unacceptable.”
