Jammu, Mar 11: A devastating fire broke out late Tuesday night in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, reducing a municipal council office and two nearby residential houses to ashes, officials said on Wednesday.
According to the Fire and Emergency Services Department, the blaze started around midnight in the single storey Municipal Council building located in the densely populated area of Kishtwar town. The flames quickly spread to two adjacent houses, causing extensive destruction.
Soon after receiving information, three fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Firefighters battled the flames for several hours before finally bringing the situation under control, officials said.
Despite the swift response, all three structures sustained severe damage in the incident.
Police have taken note of the incident and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire, officials added.
