06-04-2023 : According to Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh, the number of militants, whether local or from Pakistan, is currently at an all-time low in the region. While militancy is not yet completely over, Singh believes it is slowly coming to an end as new recruits are renouncing the path of violence. Many young people are now pursuing education and career opportunities instead. The police and security forces have successfully controlled militancy and are continuing to take action against remaining militants.
The police are facing challenges posed by drones in Jammu, as they are being used to smuggle drugs and weapons from Pakistan. However, Singh explained that several countermeasures have been installed on the ground, and the police have successfully intercepted many drones carrying contraband. Efforts to stop the smuggling of weapons and drugs are ongoing.
Singh also mentioned that the police have launched a campaign to end the smuggling and proliferation of drugs. They have busted several dumps in Jammu and are taking action against the routes used to supply drugs and the people involved. The police are running drug de-addiction centres at several places in Jammu and Kashmir and plan to increase their scope in the union territory.
Regarding the holding of Eid prayers at Eidgah in Srinagar, Singh stated that the announcement has been made by the Wakf Board, and the divisional administration will make its own decision on the matter. Singh thanked the people for not falling prey to the designs of pro-Pakistan elements who were provoking them to resort to stone pelting for their own vested interests.
