Mumbai, Jan 10 : Actress Shriya Pilgaonkar has sparked excitement among fans by confirming her return as Sweety Gupta in Mirzapur: The Film, marking a surprising comeback of her character who met a tragic end in Season 1 of the popular crime thriller series.

Shriya, who is currently shooting for the film adaptation, announced the news on Instagram, hinting that her character is “back from the dead.” She shared a photo of the film’s clapboard along with a group picture featuring key cast members, including Ali Fazal, Shweta Tripathi, Divyenndu, Pankaj Tripathi and Rasika Dugal.

Captioning the post, Shriya wrote: “8 years later … guess who’s back from the dead. MIRZAPUR – THE FILM. Currently filming. Jald hi milenge ..” The post instantly grabbed attention, reviving memories of her much loved character.

In Mirzapur Season 1, Sweety Gupta was brutally killed by Munna Bhaiyya during her wedding, despite being pregnant, a moment that left viewers shocked and heartbroken. Her return in the film has now raised curiosity about how the makers plan to revisit or reinterpret her storyline.

The Mirzapur universe revolves around Akhandanand “Kaleen” Tripathi, a powerful crime lord and businessman who rules the Mirzapur district in Uttar Pradesh’s Purvanchal region. The first season featured an ensemble cast including Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu Sharma, Vikrant Massey, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Rasika Dugal, Harshita Gaur and Kulbhushan Kharbanda.

While the second season retained most of the original cast, it excluded Vikrant Massey and Shriya Pilgaonkar, introducing new faces such as Vijay Varma, Isha Talwar and Priyanshu Painyuli.

On the work front, Shriya Pilgaonkar will next be seen in Haiwaan, directed by Priyadarshan. The film has completed shooting and is expected to release in 2026. Shriya made her acting debut with the Marathi film Ekulti Ek (2013), winning the Maharashtra State Film Award for Best Debut, and later gained widespread recognition through projects like Fan, Mirzapur, Guilty Minds, The Broken News and Taaza Khabar.
