MLA Arvind Gupta praises “Tanvi The Great” screening for raising autism awareness

JAMMU, Aug 10: Zuvi Preschool & Daycare, under the leadership of its Founding Principal Nishu Chandra, organised a special screening of the acclaimed film ‘Tanvi The Great’ on Sunday at Platinum Movietime, Palm Island Mall, Jammu.

The event was aimed at promoting awareness, acceptance, and inclusion of children with autism in mainstream society.

Directed, produced, and acted in by Padma Bhushan awardee Anupam Kher, the film sensitively portrays the journey of a child with autism, delivering a powerful message of empathy, resilience, and hope for neurodiverse children and their families.

Exclusive video messages from Anupam Kher and Shubhangi Dutt, who plays Tanvi in the film, added a personal touch, with both lauding the efforts of Zuvi Preschool for championing the cause in Jammu.

The theme of the film “Tanvi The Great” is overcoming societal expectations and embracing individuality, particularly for those with autism. The film tells the story of Tanvi, an autistic young woman who strives to fulfill her late father’s dream of joining the Indian Army, defying a society that may not readily accept her. It also explores themes of family, grief, and the importance of understanding and acceptance within a family unit.

MLA Jammu West, Arvind Gupta, praised the initiative, stating, “Awareness is the first step towards acceptance. Such efforts by educational institutions help break barriers, dispel myths, and create a society where every child, irrespective of their challenges, is respected and included.”

Nishu Chandra, Founding Principal of Zuvi Preschool & Daycare, expressed her gratitude to all attendees, saying, “Autism is not a limitation, it is simply a different way of experiencing the world. Through this screening, we wanted to bring the community together to understand, empathise, and support children with autism. I thank all our guests, parents, educators, and medical professionals for standing with us in this mission of inclusion.”

The event was attended by prominent personalities including Dr. Navneet Gupta (Audiologist & Speech Therapist), Dr. Romesh Kumar (HOD Psychology, DIET Jammu), Dr. Milan Kotru and Dhruv Kotru (Sedna Hospital), Prof. Aksa (Associate Professor, Govt. Women College Jammu), Neha Kalra (Resource Person, Inclusive Education – Samagra Shiksha), and Dr. Tarun Sharma (Actor, Karate Coach, and Incharge – Cultural Cell, J&K), alongside parents, educators, therapists, and media representatives.

The gathering concluded with a strong message — that collective awareness and acceptance are key to building a compassionate and inclusive society for children of all abilities.
