Mobile Internet Speed Curtailed in Kashmir Amid Protests Over Khamenei Killing

Authorities throttle data speeds across Valley citing precautionary measures amid demonstrations

Srinagar, Mar 2: Mobile internet services were slowed across the Kashmir Valley on Monday following protests over the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, officials said.

The restrictions were described as a precautionary step to maintain public order after demonstrations erupted in several parts of the region. Khamenei was reported killed in an airstrike in Tehran during joint military action by Israel and the United States, prompting reactions in multiple countries.

In Kashmir, gatherings were reported in areas including Lal Chowk, Saida Kadal, Budgam, Bandipora, Anantnag and Pulwama. Participants were seen raising slogans and expressing anger over the development.

Authorities confirmed that high-speed mobile data was throttled across all networks in the Valley, limiting access as a temporary measure. No timeline was provided for restoration of full speed services.

Meanwhile, police issued an advisory to media organisations urging responsible coverage. The statement called on news outlets to avoid publishing unverified information or speculative content and to rely solely on credible sources. Officials emphasised that careful reporting was essential to prevent misinformation and maintain public confidence during a sensitive period.
