Model Code of Conduct Enforced in Jammu and Kashmir Following Election Schedule Announcement

JAMMU, August 16: With the Election Commission of India unveiling the schedule for the long-awaited assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has been put into immediate effect.

An official statement clarified that the Model Code of Conduct applies from the moment the election schedule is announced. This means that all provisions of the MCC will be enforced across Jammu and Kashmir, impacting candidates, political parties, and the local government.

Additionally, the MCC extends to the Union Government concerning any announcements or policy decisions relevant to Jammu and Kashmir, and Haryana, as reported.

The Election Commission has outlined that the assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir will be conducted in three phases: the first on September 18, the second on September 25, and the final phase on October 1. The counting of votes is scheduled for October 4.
