New Delhi, Oct 4: India has welcomed US President Donald Trump’s leadership as peace efforts in Gaza show signs of decisive progress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday.
Modi highlighted the potential release of Israeli hostages by Hamas, calling it a significant step toward restoring peace in the region. In a post on X, he stated, “India will continue to strongly support all efforts towards a durable and just peace.”
Trump has instructed Israel to halt bombing operations in the Gaza Strip after Hamas reportedly agreed to certain elements of his peace plan, which aims to end the nearly two-year conflict and ensure the return of remaining hostages captured in the October 7, 2023, attacks.
Hamas has expressed willingness to release hostages and hand over control to other Palestinian authorities, though some components of the plan still require further consultations among Palestinian leaders.
India’s support underscores its continued commitment to facilitating diplomatic efforts and a sustainable resolution in Gaza, in coordination with international partners.
