New Delhi, Nov 12: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a significant meeting with Bhutan’s Fourth and former King, Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck, on Wednesday, focusing on cooperation in energy, trade, technology, and connectivity. The interaction marked the Fourth King’s 70th birthday celebration.
Sharing the development on X, PM Modi wrote, “Had a wonderful meeting with His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. Appreciated his extensive efforts over the years towards further cementing India-Bhutan ties.” The Prime Minister also discussed the Gelephu Mindfulness City Project, noting its alignment with India’s Act East Policy.
The PMO stated that PM Modi conveyed felicitations on the Fourth King’s 70th birth anniversary and extended the best wishes and prayers of the Government and people of India for his continued good health and well-being. Modi also acknowledged the King’s guidance in strengthening the India-Bhutan friendship.
In addition, PM Modi participated in the Global Peace Prayer Festival 2025 in Thimphu, Bhutan, attending the three-day Kalachakra Initiation and Empowerment ceremony at Changlimithang Stadium. Presided over by His Holiness the Je Khenpo, the ritual is one of Tibetan Buddhism’s most sacred ceremonies, aimed at blessing participants with advanced meditative practices for spiritual growth.
Earlier, on Tuesday, PM Modi also met Bhutan’s current monarch, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, to discuss bilateral cooperation across energy, defense, technology, connectivity, and security sectors. Modi described the meeting as comprehensive, emphasizing India’s role as a key partner in Bhutan’s development journey.
