NEW DELHI, Aug 15: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday described Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day address as a significant milestone in India’s journey towards becoming a leading nation across sectors, saying it reflected a strong commitment to Swadeshi, prosperity and self-reliance.
In a post on X, Shah said the prime minister had laid out a comprehensive roadmap for building a developed India guided by the principles of “nation first”, a drug-free society and a secure country.
The Home Minister highlighted Modi’s reference to India’s progress over the past 12 years in strategic areas including semiconductors, critical minerals, energy and railways.
According to Shah, the prime minister also presented the concept of “Saptadhara”, or seven pillars of strength, as a framework to accelerate national development and strengthen self reliance across different sectors.
He said the government was placing particular emphasis on harnessing the potential of India’s youth. Among the initiatives announced by Modi, Shah pointed to plans to provide artificial intelligence training to more than one crore young people within a year, create a network offering free online coaching and launch a talent identification campaign aimed at the 2036 Olympic Games.
Shah also noted the long-term targets outlined by the prime minister, including raising India’s nuclear power generation capacity to 100 gigawatts and establishing eight new semiconductor units by 2047.
Describing the address as being rooted in the ideals of Swadeshi, prosperity and self-reliance, Shah said it would serve as an important milestone in India’s efforts to emerge as a leading country in every major sector.
In a separate post, the Home Minister highlighted another moment from the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort, where “Vande Mataram”, the iconic rallying cry of India’s freedom movement, was sung.
Shah described the rendition as a historic and deeply emotional moment, saying it filled him with pride and excitement.
The remarks came as India marked its 80th Independence Day, with the prime minister’s address focusing on economic self-reliance, strategic capabilities, technological advancement, energy security and opportunities for the country’s youth.
