Mohali Arrests Expose Links to Overseas Based Terror Operative

Recovery of an explosive device during a coordinated operation prevents a potential attack on key infrastructure in SAS Nagar.

Chandigarh, June 4: Punjab Police have thwarted a suspected terror conspiracy following the arrest of two individuals allegedly linked to an overseas based operative during a special operation in Mohali. Authorities said the action helped prevent a possible attack targeting vital public facilities in the region.

According to senior officials, the operation was conducted by the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) in SAS Nagar after intelligence inputs indicated suspicious activities connected to a broader cross-border network. The swift intervention resulted in the detention of two suspects and the seizure of an improvised explosive device (IED).

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav described the development as a significant success in the state’s ongoing efforts to combat security threats and dismantle terror-linked networks. He stated that the recovery of the explosive device averted a serious risk that could have endangered public safety and disrupted essential services.

Investigators believe the arrested individuals were acting on behalf of handlers operating from outside India. Security agencies are now examining communication records, financial transactions, and other evidence to determine the full scope of the alleged conspiracy.

Officials said the probe will focus on identifying additional operatives, support networks, and logistical channels that may have been involved in planning the intended attack. The investigation is also expected to explore possible international connections and funding sources linked to the case.

Punjab Police have intensified surveillance and intelligence gathering measures in sensitive areas as part of precautionary efforts. Authorities emphasized that maintaining public safety remains a top priority and assured citizens that all necessary steps are being taken to neutralize potential threats.

The latest operation underscores the continued vigilance of security agencies against attempts by hostile elements to destabilize peace and security in the region. Further details are expected to emerge as investigators expand the inquiry into the network behind the foiled plot.
