India, June 10 : India has begun witnessing the gradual advancement of the southwest monsoon during the first week of June 2026, offering much-needed relief after a prolonged and intense pre-monsoon heatwave that affected large parts of the country. Meteorological observations indicate that rainfall activity has picked up across southern coastal belts, northeastern states, and parts of central India, signaling the seasonal shift that millions of farmers depend upon for sowing and crop planning.
However, despite the encouraging onset, weather experts continue to caution against uneven distribution of rainfall.
