MS Dhoni Likely to Miss Opening IPL Matches Due to Calf Injury

CSK veteran undergoing rehab for calf strain ahead of season opener

New Delhi, Mar 28: MS Dhoni is expected to sit out the initial phase of IPL 2026 after sustaining a calf injury, with Chennai Super Kings confirming the development on Saturday.

In an official statement, the franchise said Dhoni is currently undergoing rehabilitation for a calf strain, making him unavailable for the first two weeks of the tournament.

The 44-year-old has continued to feature in the IPL despite retiring from international cricket in 2020, remaining a key figure in CSK’s setup. While Ruturaj Gaikwad leads the side as captain, Dhoni continues to play a crucial leadership role within the squad.

Over the years, his fitness has been closely monitored, especially as he only participates in the IPL. Recurring knee issues have also troubled the veteran, including a surgery he underwent in 2023.

In the previous season, Dhoni played 14 matches, often batting lower down the order to provide late-innings acceleration. His presence remains vital both on and off the field for the franchise.

CSK will begin their IPL 2026 campaign against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on March 30, with fans now awaiting updates on Dhoni’s return.
