New Delhi, Jan 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray on his birth centenary, recalling him as a towering leader whose influence left a lasting mark on Maharashtra’s socio-political landscape.

In a statement marking the occasion, PM Modi highlighted Balasaheb Thackeray’s sharp intellect, compelling oratory, and steadfast convictions that helped him forge a unique connection with the people. “On the birth centenary of the great Balasaheb Thackeray, we honor a leader who profoundly shaped Maharashtra’s socio-political narrative,” the Prime Minister said.

PM Modi also noted Thackeray’s contributions beyond politics, emphasizing his passion for culture, literature, and journalism. “Balasaheb’s work as a cartoonist reflected his keen observation of society and fearless commentary on issues affecting the people,” he said.

Founder of the Shiv Sena in 1966, Balasaheb Thackeray played a decisive role in shaping political discourse in Maharashtra, wielding significant mass appeal and influence over public opinion for decades.

The Prime Minister added that Thackeray’s vision continues to inspire development initiatives in the state. “We remain motivated by his vision for Maharashtra’s progress and will continue working to fulfill it,” PM Modi said.
