“Nation Must Remain Vigilant During West Asia Crisis, Says Naidu”

Civil Aviation Ministry reviews aviation impact, airfare stability and passenger facilities during Ranchi visit

RANCHI, May 20: Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu on Wednesday said India must remain cautious and fully prepared to deal with any possible consequences arising from the worsening situation in West Asia, while assuring that the current developments are not a matter of immediate concern for the country.

Speaking to reporters during his first official visit to Ranchi, the minister stressed the importance of advance planning across all sectors, particularly civil aviation, to minimise any disruption caused by global instability.

Naidu said authorities are closely analysing the evolving geopolitical situation and formulating response strategies for the short, medium and long term. He added that preparedness and coordination would be essential to safeguard national interests and public convenience if the crisis escalates further.

The minister also addressed concerns regarding rising travel expenses amid international uncertainty. He said the Centre has already taken several steps to ensure passengers are not burdened with higher airfares.

According to Naidu, the government reduced aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices and lowered landing and parking charges at airports to help maintain fare stability and support airline operations. He noted that the recent decision of the Delhi government to slash value-added tax on ATF from 25 per cent to 7 per cent would further ease operational pressure on carriers.

Highlighting the growing demand for domestic air travel, Naidu said nearly five lakh passengers travel daily on Indian routes and the ministry is continuously monitoring ticket prices. He added that additional flights and improved connectivity would be introduced whenever demand increases.

Commenting on the ongoing probe into the Ahmedabad aircraft accident, the minister said the investigation has reached its final phase and is being conducted in a transparent and accountable manner.

He stated that the inquiry carries international significance because passengers from multiple countries were involved, and assured that the final findings would meet global standards of scrutiny. The report is expected to be released soon.

During his visit, Naidu also launched several passenger-oriented initiatives at Ranchi airport, including the Udan Yatri Cafe aimed at providing affordable food options for travellers.

Describing the initiative as a successful model already introduced at several airports, the minister said the government remains committed to making air travel more affordable, accessible and passenger-friendly across the country.

Naidu received a grand welcome upon his arrival in Ranchi and was seen riding pillion on a motorcycle with Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth from the airport.
