New Delhi, May 7: In the backdrop of India’s precise missile strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday emphasized that national unity and solidarity are essential in these challenging times, reaffirming his party’s unwavering support to the Indian armed forces.
Taking to social media platform X, Kharge stated, “India has always maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism originating from Pakistan and PoK. Today, as our armed forces have successfully executed strikes on terror camps, we stand with them with pride and full support.”
The Congress president lauded the courage and professionalism of the Indian armed forces involved in ‘Operation Sindoor’, which targeted nine identified terror launchpads, including the Jaish-e-Mohammad base in Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba’s headquarters in Muridke. The operation was launched early Wednesday morning in retaliation to the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, where 26 innocent civilians were massacred.
“We salute the bravery, precision, and resolve of our armed forces who have carried out these focused, calibrated strikes with the utmost responsibility,” Kharge said. He added that the strikes were designed to be “measured and non-escalatory,” aligning with India’s doctrine of zero tolerance towards terrorism, while also ensuring no Pakistani military establishments were targeted.
Kharge highlighted that from the very beginning of the Pahalgam tragedy, the Congress party has maintained a consistent stand in support of decisive and proportionate action against cross-border terrorism. “Our position has been clear and firm — we are with the nation and our brave soldiers in every step taken to safeguard our sovereignty and secure our people,” he reiterated.
Stressing the importance of political consensus and unity at such a time, the Congress president said, “The hour demands national unity, not division. We, as a responsible opposition and as a party with a proud legacy in nation-building, place the interests of the country above all else.”
“Our leaders, past and present, have always led by example in moments of national crisis. We urge all citizens and political parties to rise above partisan lines and speak in one voice against the scourge of terrorism,” he concluded.
The Ministry of Defence, in its official communication, confirmed the strikes were carried out with surgical precision under Operation Sindoor, ensuring minimum collateral impact and avoiding civilian and military installations. The action, it said, was part of India’s strategic deterrence posture and intended to degrade the capabilities of terror groups plotting attacks on Indian soil.
