BRUSSELS, May 29: NATO member countries called for deeper defence coordination and increased military spending during high-level security consultations held in Brussels amid growing concerns over global instability.
Alliance officials stressed the need to strengthen Europe’s collective security architecture in response to ongoing geopolitical challenges, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict and emerging cyber threats.
Several member states supported proposals for enhanced intelligence-sharing, joint military exercises and rapid deployment capabilities to improve preparedness against future security risks.
NATO Secretary General emphasized that the alliance must remain united in addressing evolving global threats while maintaining support for Ukraine.
The discussions also focused on strengthening defence manufacturing capacities and reducing dependence on external suppliers for strategic military equipment.
European leaders acknowledged that rising geopolitical tensions have transformed the continent’s security environment, prompting governments to review long-term defence strategies.
Political observers said the Brussels consultations reflected NATO’s efforts to reinforce deterrence measures amid uncertainty surrounding future global power dynamics.
