Srinagar, Oct 10: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) on Friday announced its candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, nominating senior leaders Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan, Shammi Oberoi, and Sajad Kichloo.
Addressing a press conference, NC General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar said the party has finalized three names and is holding discussions with the Congress over the fourth seat.
“We have kept one seat open, and talks are ongoing with the Congress,” Sagar said.
However, party leaders refrained from confirming whether the Congress would be offered one of NC’s safe seats or a more competitive one where the BJP holds an edge.
According to political observers, the NC-Congress alliance currently holds 24 votes for the fourth seat, while the BJP commands 28 votes, making the contest a close one.
The announcement signals the NC’s intent to strengthen the INDIA bloc’s position in the Upper House as coordination between alliance partners continues ahead of the crucial elections.
