NC stays true to its commitments, delivers amid challenges: Showkat Mir

Says era of bureaucratic red tape has come to an end

Srinagar, 15 Oct: Reaffirming its unwavering commitment to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference continues to strictly adhere to the promises and announcements made in its election manifesto. This was stated by Advocate Showkat Mir, Provincial President of the party, while addressing a gathering of public delegations, party leaders, office bearers, and workers at the party headquarters today.

He emphasized that the National Conference under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah remains dedicated to the aspirations of the people and will fulfill each promise one by one, Insha Allah. “Our party will never forget the valuable mandate given to us by the people. We are fully aware of our responsibility, and the Chief Minister himself has reiterated time and again that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are the government’s top priority,” he said.

He strongly asserted that negative propaganda and fabricated figures being peddled by detractors cannot overshadow the truth. “The reality is that despite facing the toughest challenges, this people’s government has performed remarkably well,” he added.

Highlighting the key achievements of the government, Mir stated that the very first session of the Assembly saw the fulfillment of the government’s biggest promise — the passage of a resolution on special status. Subsequently, the Cabinet approved a resolution for the restoration of statehood. In line with the party’s manifesto, the educational calendar was shifted back to October–November, reflecting the government’s sensitivity to local needs.

A sub-committee was constituted to address the disparities in reservation, which promptly submitted its recommendations within a month — a testament to the government’s efficiency. In a move to support young women, marriage assistance was increased from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000. Women also benefited from the launch of a free bus service, and social welfare measures were significantly strengthened, including the provision of 200 units of free electricity and doubling of free ration for families under the AAY and EWS categories.

Further, the government took decisive steps to tackle unemployment. Vacant posts across various departments were referred to the Public Service Commission and the Services Selection Board, effectively reviving the stalled recruitment process. The upper age limit for candidates appearing in competitive examinations was increased, providing greater opportunities to the youth.

Substantial improvements were made in power supply infrastructure, and a smart bus service was launched across all districts to enhance public transportation. Most importantly, the government has begun correcting one by one the anti-people decisions taken during the previous undemocratic regime.

Mir declared that the era of bureaucratic red tape has come to an end and National Conference MLAs are working shoulder to shoulder with the people at the grassroots level to ensure continuous relief and development in every sector.
