New Delhi, May 28: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has expanded its digital learning initiative by introducing additional online educational resources, interactive classroom content and multilingual study materials for schools across the country. The move aims to improve access to quality education while supporting both students and teachers through technology-enabled learning.
Officials said the latest phase of the programme includes digital textbooks, animated educational videos, virtual laboratory demonstrations, practice assessments and teacher resource modules covering various subjects from primary to senior secondary levels.
The new content has been designed to align with the National Curriculum Framework and the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Special emphasis has been placed on experiential learning, critical thinking, problem-solving and competency based education.
NCERT has also strengthened support for regional languages by expanding educational materials in multiple Indian languages. Authorities believe this will help improve learning outcomes among students studying in diverse linguistic environments.
Teachers will receive additional online professional development programmes focusing on digital classroom management, innovative teaching methods and effective use of educational technology. These training sessions aim to improve classroom engagement and encourage activity-based learning.
Schools have been encouraged to integrate digital resources with conventional teaching practices rather than replacing classroom instruction. Officials stressed that technology should complement teachers by providing additional learning opportunities for students.
The initiative also supports students preparing for board examinations by offering structured revision materials, sample question papers, self-assessment exercises and concept-based learning modules. These resources are expected to reduce dependence on expensive private coaching materials.
Education experts have welcomed the expansion of digital learning but emphasised the need to improve internet connectivity and digital infrastructure, particularly in rural and remote areas where access remains uneven.
State education departments are working with NCERT to facilitate wider adoption of digital content through smart classrooms, school computer laboratories and mobile learning platforms. Several states have already begun integrating the new materials into their teaching schedules.
Officials believe that expanding digital education resources will help create a more inclusive, accessible and technology-driven school education system. As schools increasingly adopt blended learning models, NCERT expects the initiative to strengthen academic quality and prepare students for future educational and professional challenges.
