New Delhi, Sep 22: The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has released the new Class 9 Mathematics textbook for the 2026-27 academic session, while the revised Social Science textbook is scheduled to become available on September 30.
The latest textbook rollout is part of NCERT’s ongoing implementation of the revised school curriculum. The council has said the release of the two books is proceeding according to the planned schedule, giving schools and students access to updated learning material for the current academic year.
The new Mathematics book became available from September 21, making it the first of the two Class 9 titles to be released. The Social Science textbook is expected to follow at the end of the month. The staggered schedule means schools will receive the revised materials at different points during the academic session.
The textbook changes are linked to the broader revision of school education material being undertaken by NCERT. As new curriculum frameworks are introduced, textbooks are being redesigned and updated to reflect the changes in what students are expected to learn.
For Class 9 students, Mathematics is an important transition stage because the subject introduces concepts that form the foundation for higher secondary studies. The availability of a revised textbook therefore provides schools with an updated reference for classroom teaching, assignments and examinations.
The Social Science book, meanwhile, is expected to be available from September 30. The subject covers areas that require students to connect concepts relating to society, history, geography, governance and other aspects of the curriculum. Its revised edition will become part of the updated learning resources for the academic year.
NCERT’s latest announcement also provides clarity for schools that had been waiting for the revised Class 9 books. Rather than indicating a delay, the council has stated that the publication timetable is moving as planned.
The textbook release comes at a time when schools are already well into the 2026-27 academic session. Teachers will therefore have to incorporate the newly issued material into classroom planning while students adjust to the revised books.
The new editions are also significant for parents and students who rely on NCERT books as the principal study material for school-level preparation. With the Mathematics textbook now available, students can begin working with the updated content instead of continuing to depend on earlier editions.
The September 30 release date for Social Science will give schools a short additional period to prepare for the change. Teachers can use the intervening time to understand the revised material and plan lessons around the chapters once the book becomes available.
The latest development is part of a wider transformation of NCERT learning resources. The organisation has been working to align textbooks with changes in curriculum and classroom learning requirements. The revised Class 9 books are among the materials being introduced as this process continues.
The release schedule is also relevant to students preparing for assessments during the academic year. Schools generally rely on prescribed textbooks when planning lessons and setting internal assessments, making timely availability important for both teachers and learners.
With Mathematics already released and Social Science scheduled for September 30, Class 9 students will gradually move to the complete set of revised learning resources. The focus now will shift to how schools integrate the books into regular teaching and ensure that students receive adequate support during the transition.
The development gives schools a clearer picture of the resources to be used for Class 9 during the current academic session and marks another step in the introduction of revised NCERT curriculum material.
