Mumbai: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has expressed its intent to make the upcoming Baramati Assembly by election unopposed, with senior leader Sunil Tatkare announcing plans to hold discussions with opposition parties, including Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT).
The bypolls in Baramati in Pune district and Rahuri in Ahilyanagar have been necessitated following the demise of key legislators, prompting fresh elections scheduled for April 23.
Tatkare said the party will reach out to other political stakeholders to explore the possibility of a consensus candidate in Baramati, aiming to avoid a contest in the constituency.
He also indicated that the party’s nominee is expected to file the nomination papers on April 6, marking the formal beginning of its campaign preparations.
The move signals an attempt to build political understanding across parties in the constituency, even as the state prepares for the by-elections.
