Nitish Kumar set for record 10th term as Chief Minister after NDA’s sweeping Bihar mandate

New Delhi, Nov 19 : With the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) securing a sweeping victory in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly elections, Janata Dal (United) leader and the state’s longest serving Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, is set to take oath for a record 10th term.

JD(U) working president Sanjay Kumar Jha announced on Wednesday that the party will elect Nitish Kumar as its Legislature Party leader at 11 am today (November 19, 2025). This will be followed by an NDA Legislature Party meeting at 3 pm in the Central Hall of the Assembly to formalise him as the alliance leader.
Later in the evening, NDA leaders will meet the Governor to initiate the process of forming the new government.

Oath-taking ceremony on November 20

According to Jha, the oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, November 20, 2025. He described the occasion as a “big day” for the JD(U), calling Nitish Kumar “the leader for the entire party and every worker,” while thanking the people of Bihar for their strong mandate.

Nitish Kumar will take oath as chief minister for the 10th time, having previously served nine terms—including a brief seven-day tenure in 2000, which ended due to a lack of majority.

NDA registers emphatic win in Bihar

The NDA returned to power with 202 seats in the 243-member assembly.
