Need to exploit full potential of Gandhi Nagar Hospital: Kavinder

Asks Govt to make 200-beded hospital fully functional to alleviate patient load on SMGS hospital

JAMMU, July 27: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta on Wednesday asked the UT administration to exploit full potential of Gandhi Nagar Hospital and batted for making it fully functional 200-beded health facility to supplement the services provided by SMGS hospital as the latter is overburdened due to unprecedented patients load.

In a statement issued to media persons, the BJP stalwart leader appreciated the J&K administration for taking exceptional steps in uplifting the healthcare sector in the UT especially during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. He applauded those responsible for getting CLAA permission to prepare blood components in the Blood Centre of Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar.

It is pertinent to mention that the Central Licences Approving Authority (CLAA), Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) which works under Directorate General of Health Services, Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has granted permission to Gandhi Nagar Hospital’s Blood Centre to prepare blood components as additional products.

Kavinder said that the approval will add the aforesaid hospital into the pool of three medical institutes viz. GMC Jammu, GMC Srinagar and SKIMS Soura, which already had this permission.

The former MLA of Gandhi Nagar constituency said with the approval of the CLAA, Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar has become 1st District Hospital in the whole Jammu and Kashmir where such facility is available. He said that successive governments in J&K had not paid process attention towards this health facility leading to undermining of its potential.

Kavinder said that LG Manoj Sinha should intervene in the matter and ensure that the Gandhi Nagar hospital becomes one of the best healthcare facility in the UT as the hospital is lagging only because of indifference shown by the previous regimes in the erstwhile State of J&K. He appealed to the J&K government to adequate steps in making this 200-beded hospital fully functional as soon as possible.
