NEW DELHI, June 20: Preparations for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) re-examination entered the final phase on Saturday as authorities across India implemented unprecedented security and monitoring measures ahead of the crucial medical entrance test scheduled for June 21.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted a nationwide mock drill to evaluate the preparedness of examination centres and ensure that all logistical arrangements were functioning smoothly. The exercise was aimed at identifying vulnerabilities and strengthening safeguards before the re-examination takes place. Officials said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to restoring confidence in one of India’s most important competitive examinations.
The re-examination follows the cancellation of the original NEET-UG 2026 test after allegations of question paper leaks and irregularities surfaced in several states. The controversy sparked widespread concern among students, parents and educational institutions, prompting authorities to introduce a series of reforms and security enhancements.
In Rajasthan, authorities transformed 27 cities into high-security examination zones. Advanced 5G signal jammers have been installed to prevent electronic cheating, while central security forces have been deployed around examination centres. Several suspicious individuals have already been detained as part of preventive measures aimed at protecting the integrity of the test.
Question papers are being transported under strict security protocols and stored at highly secured locations before distribution to examination centres. Local administrations have also announced temporary restrictions around examination venues, including controlled access zones and enhanced surveillance.
The National Medical Commission has meanwhile instructed medical colleges across the country not to grant leave to students during the examination period. The directive is intended to discourage any activities that could potentially compromise the conduct of the examination and ensure that institutions remain vigilant during the re-test process.
Education experts believe that the successful conduct of the re-examination is critical for restoring trust in India’s examination system. The controversy surrounding the cancelled test has highlighted the challenges associated with conducting large-scale competitive examinations involving millions of candidates.
Several states have introduced dedicated monitoring teams, cyber surveillance units and special coordination cells to oversee examination operations. Authorities are also utilizing digital tracking systems to monitor transportation routes, centre operations and candidate verification procedures.
Student organizations have welcomed the enhanced measures while urging authorities to ensure that deserving candidates do not suffer because of administrative failures. Many aspirants have spent months preparing for the examination and are eager for a fair and transparent assessment process.
Transportation support has also been expanded in some cities. In Nagpur, special public transport arrangements have been introduced to help candidates reach examination centres without difficulty. Free bus services have been made available to eligible students, reducing travel-related stress on examination day.
The re-examination represents one of the largest educational exercises undertaken this year. Officials remain confident that the strengthened security architecture will help deliver a credible and incident free examination.
