Kathmandu, October 14: Nepal’s Parliamentary Hearing Committee on Wednesday approved ambassadorial nominees for 10 countries, including India, China and the United States, clearing the way for the next stage of their appointment process, an official said.
Parliament Secretariat spokesperson Ekram Giri confirmed that the committee had endorsed Nischal Nath Pandey as Nepal’s proposed ambassador to India, Kalyan Raj Sharma to China and Chiranjung Thapa to the United States.
The panel also approved candidates for diplomatic postings in the United Kingdom, Germany, Israel, Oman, South Korea, Spain and Sri Lanka.
The latest decision follows the cabinet’s recommendation of 13 ambassadorial nominees on September 18. However, the appointments of three candidates are still awaiting clearance from the parliamentary committee.
With the required parliamentary approval secured for the 10 nominees, their names will now be forwarded to the respective host countries for agrement, or formal consent to accept the proposed diplomatic representatives.
The nominees can be formally appointed as Nepal’s ambassadors after the host countries grant their approval and the remaining appointment procedures are completed.
Agrement is a standard diplomatic requirement under which a receiving country agrees to accept a foreign government’s proposed ambassador before the appointment is officially announced.
The approval marks a significant step in Nepal’s efforts to fill key diplomatic positions and advance its representation in the countries concerned.
