Mumbai, Dec 19 : Netflix has officially renewed the hit Japanese historical action series Last Samurai Standing for a second season, much to the delight of fans worldwide. The announcement comes after the show delivered a stellar global performance, topping the Netflix Weekly Global Top 10 for Non-English Series and breaking into the Top 10 lists across 88 countries.
The series also created history by becoming the first all Japanese production to receive a Critics’ Choice Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Series, underlining its international appeal and critical success.
About ‘Last Samurai Standing’
Adapted from Shogo Imamura’s award-winning novel Ikusagami, the series is set in the late 19th-century Meiji era. It follows 292 samurai who gather at Kyoto’s Tenryuji Temple to participate in a deadly survival game known as Kodoku. The lone survivor stands to win a staggering prize of 100 billion yen.
The story centres on Shujiro Saga, played by Junichi Okada, a battle-hardened warrior driven by desperation to save his ailing family as he fights through brutal combat and shifting alliances.

Junichi Okada, who also serves as producer and action choreographer, expressed excitement over the show’s global reception. He said the team is eager to return to the battlefield and make the next season even more energetic and action-packed.
Director Michihito Fujii echoed the sentiment, promising that Season 2 will raise the stakes further and deliver a grander, more intense viewing experience.
