New Delhi, Oct 5: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against four individuals, including Khalistani operatives, for their alleged involvement in the grenade attack on the residence of former Punjab minister and BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia in Jalandhar earlier this year.
The chargesheet, filed before a Chandigarh court on Saturday, names two arrested accused Saidul Ameen of Amroha (Uttar Pradesh) and Abhijot Jangra of Kurukshetra (Haryana) along with two absconders, Kulbir Singh Sidhu of Yamunanagar and Manish alias Kaka Rana of Karnal, both from Haryana, officials said.
The grenade attack took place on the night of April 7, 2025, and the NIA assumed control of the investigation on April 12, following initial inquiries by Punjab Police.
According to the agency, Sidhu, an operative of the banned outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), along with Manish, had formed a terror module with the intent to target prominent Punjab leaders, create panic among citizens, and raise funds for the outfit through extortion.
Investigations revealed that Ameen carried out the grenade attack under Sidhu’s direction, while Jangra financed the operation. The grenade was supplied by Sidhu, the NIA said.
After the attack, Sidhu reportedly circulated a poster claiming responsibility for the conspiracy and highlighting the group’s involvement. A Red Corner Notice and a ₹10 lakh reward have been issued for information leading to his arrest.
Sidhu has also been previously chargesheeted in connection with the targeted killing of VHP leader Vikas Prabhakar in April 2024, the NIA added.
The agency said it is intensifying efforts to trace and apprehend the absconding accused and identify other active members of the BKI network operating across India.
