PATNA, Dec 15: A day after his appointment as the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) national working president, Bihar minister Nitin Nabin on Monday began his transition with a personal gesture, paying tribute to his father in Patna before leaving for Delhi for his formal coronation ceremony later in the day.
Before departing for the capital, Nabin paid homage to his father, veteran BJP leader and former MLA Navin Kishore Prasad Sinha. Speaking to reporters, he said the party leadership had consistently encouraged workers “not just to work and learn, but also to move ahead,” adding that he was beginning the new responsibility with his father’s blessings.
Nabin also visited the Mahavir Mandir, saying the darshan filled him with renewed energy as he prepared to take on his organisational role. “I have reached here with the blessings of God,” he said.
Formal charge in Delhi
Party leaders said Nabin left for Delhi in the morning, where senior leaders from the national and state units were scheduled to receive him at the airport before proceeding to the BJP headquarters. His coronation ceremony, marking the formal assumption of charge as national working president, is slated for later on Monday.
According to party sources, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and other senior BJP functionaries are expected to welcome him, underscoring the organisational significance of the appointment.
Appointment signals generational shift
Nabin’s elevation was announced on Sunday and took immediate effect. The move is being viewed within the party as part of a generational transition, with Nabin widely seen as a potential successor to BJP president JP Nadda, whose term has been extended beyond 2024.
At 45, Nabin is among the youngest leaders to be appointed to such a senior national organisational post, a factor highlighted by party leaders while reacting to the decision.
A five-time MLA from the Bankipur assembly constituency in Patna, Nabin currently serves as Bihar’s Public Works Department minister and has held ministerial responsibilities twice. He has also served as the BJP’s in-charge for Chhattisgarh and has been associated with the party’s youth wing.
Party leaders said his RSS background and long-standing organisational experience played a key role in his elevation.
Union minister Giriraj Singh described the appointment as a moment of pride for Bihar, saying it sent a strong message that the BJP was willing to entrust major responsibilities to younger leaders. He expressed confidence that Nabin would work to strengthen unity within the party.
