Jammu:08-05-23: The National Secular Forum (NSF) have taken a strong note against the Health Centre in the Campus and has lashed out at Jammu University authorities for not paying required attention towards the Health Centre in the University campus saying it has become defunct due to casual approach of administration and non availability of staff.
Addressing a press conference, Jammu District President Vikshay Vashist said that every year the University collects lakhs of rupees in the shape of fee from the students for health facilities, but the money is not being utilized properly. He said that the Health Centre doesn’t provide medicines nor does the Health Centre have Machine Operators to handle X-ray Machine, ultrasound Machine and ECG Machine etc. Due to non availability of Operators since last five year, these equipments are gathering dust
He said that posts of staff meant for the Health Center should be filled as early as possible and doctors should be made available round the clock.
Making startling revelation, he said that medicines are given to the patients without the prescriptions of doctors by the pharmacist of their own sweet will. This irregularity reflects the mess created in the Health Centre at the cost of ailing staff and students entering there to seek medical attention/treatment.
Moreover on Saturday the Health Centre remains open from 9 AM to 5 PM, but the doctor on duty does not attend on Saturday, thus making a mockery of the health services in the university Health Centre, he added.
University President Roshan Sharma also said that the Health Center should remain functional for twenty four hours so that the students in the hostel do not suffer for want of availability of doctors and para medical staff. He said there is urgency for early upgradation, proper regulation and well management for smooth running of Health Center in the campus.
A university charges a fee for the Health Centre but does not provide the facilities which divulges that the students are being duped. Even the first aid boxes have not been provided in the Departments, he added. He demanded a complete inquiry into the mis-utilization of funds by the Health Centre.
Among those who were present in the press conference included, Abhishek Uppal, Aditya Khajuria, Tufail Reyaz Khan, Punnet Bakshi and Aditiya sharma.
