NTA Revises Exam Calendar for 2026–27, Announces Tentative Dates for Major Tests

The updated schedule covers UGC NET, Joint CSIR-UGC NET, JEE Main and CUET PG, with examinations scheduled between December 2026 and April 2027.

NEW DELHI, Oct 27: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued a revised examination calendar for December 2026 to April 2027, updating the tentative schedule for several national level entrance and eligibility tests, including UGC NET, Joint CSIR-UGC NET, JEE Main and CUET PG.

The revised calendar, reported on October 27, is intended to provide candidates with updated information about upcoming examinations. According to the published report, the agency revised the schedule for administrative reasons and advised applicants to refer to the latest calendar rather than rely on earlier dates.

The examinations listed in the updated schedule cover a range of academic and professional pathways, from eligibility for teaching and research positions to admission into engineering and postgraduate programmes.

Candidates preparing for these tests are advised to check the official NTA website, nta.ac.in, for further announcements and any subsequent changes.

December examinations to begin the revised schedule

The revised calendar lists several examinations in December 2026, including the December cycles of UGC NET and Joint CSIR-UGC NET.

The Rashtriya Indian Military College examination is tentatively scheduled for December 6, while the SWAYAM examination is listed for December 8 to 12. The Rashtriya Military Schools examination is scheduled for December 13.

The UGC NET December cycle is scheduled for December 14 to 18 and December 21. The Joint CSIR-UGC NET examination is listed for December 19, 22 and 27.

UGC NET is an important examination for candidates seeking eligibility for Assistant Professor positions and Junior Research Fellowships, subject to the applicable criteria. The Joint CSIR-UGC NET serves candidates pursuing academic and research opportunities in science-related disciplines.

The revised dates are particularly relevant for aspirants who must balance examination preparation with university coursework, research responsibilities or other professional commitments.

Candidates should use the updated calendar to organise their revision plans and monitor official announcements concerning examination-city information, admit cards and other instructions.

JEE Main Session 1 scheduled for January

The updated calendar places the first session of JEE Main 2027 in January. The examination is tentatively scheduled for January 20 to 24 and January 28.

JEE Main is a major entrance examination for engineering aspirants seeking admission to participating institutions, subject to eligibility and admission requirements. Its schedule is therefore important for students preparing for undergraduate engineering courses after completing their school education.

The January dates give candidates a broad timeline for planning their final revision, practice tests and other preparation activities. Students should nevertheless rely on official examination notices for details about their individual papers, shifts and examination centres.

The calendar also lists the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) entrance examination for January 10, alongside the SHRESHTA National Entrance Test for the same date.

The All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination is tentatively scheduled for January 31.

Other tests listed during this period include the Army Cadets College examination on January 4. These examinations serve different candidate groups, making it important for applicants to identify the dates relevant to their own academic plans.

February and March schedule includes CMAT and CUET PG

The Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) is tentatively scheduled for February 7, 2027, according to the revised calendar.

CMAT is used by participating management institutions as part of their admission processes. Candidates planning to pursue management education should check the requirements of their preferred institutions and confirm how the examination is considered in their admission procedures.

The Common University Entrance Test for Postgraduate programmes (CUET PG) is scheduled across multiple dates in March.

The revised calendar lists March 2 to 5, March 8 to 9, March 12, March 15 to 19, March 24 to 25 and March 29 to 31 for CUET PG.

The examination’s extended schedule means that candidates should pay attention to the subject-specific and paper-wise details issued by the agency. The calendar’s broad date range does not, by itself, establish the individual examination date or shift for every candidate.

Applicants should also review the eligibility conditions, course requirements and admission procedures of the universities and programmes they intend to apply to.

As postgraduate admissions may involve additional university-specific requirements, candidates should not assume that appearing in the entrance examination alone completes the admission process.

JEE Main Session 2 scheduled for April

The revised calendar places JEE Main Session 2 between April 2 and 7, 2027.

The second session offers another scheduled examination window for candidates appearing in the engineering entrance test. Aspirants should follow official notifications for the registration process, eligibility conditions and applicable rules governing participation in the different sessions.

Students preparing for both sessions may use the revised dates to establish a structured study plan. This can include completing the syllabus, identifying weaker subject areas, solving previous examination papers and taking timed mock tests.

However, preparation strategies should be based on the prescribed syllabus and examination pattern, rather than assumptions drawn solely from the calendar.

Candidates should also ensure that the details submitted during registration are accurate and that they retain the required documents and application information.

Why the revised calendar matters

Examination schedules influence several aspects of a student’s academic planning, including revision timetables, application decisions, travel arrangements and preparation for subsequent admission stages.

For candidates appearing in more than one examination, updated dates can help them identify potential overlaps and allocate time more effectively. Those preparing for UGC NET, CSIR-UGC NET, JEE Main or CUET PG may need to coordinate their study schedules with university examinations, employment or other commitments.

The revised calendar also provides parents, teachers and coaching institutions with a common reference for planning support and preparation activities.

At the same time, a tentative examination calendar should not be treated as a substitute for detailed official notifications. Examination dates may be accompanied by separate announcements covering registration deadlines, correction windows, eligibility requirements, admit cards and other instructions.

Candidates should therefore monitor the official NTA website regularly and verify the latest information before making travel or other arrangements.

Candidates advised to check official announcements

The NTA has advised applicants to consult nta.ac.in for additional information and future updates. Students should carefully compare the revised schedule with any earlier calendar they may have downloaded or saved.

They should also distinguish between tentative examination dates and confirmed individual schedules. The published calendar identifies the broad examination windows, while subject-wise details and candidate-specific information must be checked through the relevant official notices.

The December 2026 to April 2027 schedule covers examinations associated with research, teaching eligibility, engineering, management, fashion education, postgraduate admissions and other academic pathways.

For aspirants, the immediate priority is to use the revised timeline to plan their preparation while remaining alert to official changes. Keeping application details organised, checking notifications regularly and following the prescribed examination instructions can help candidates avoid confusion as the 2026–27 examination cycle progresses.
