Omar Abdullah Announces Land Allotment for Flood Hit Landless Families in J&K

CM says paperwork underway; assures fair and region-neutral relief distribution

Srinagar, Oct 27: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday announced that the Jammu and Kashmir government will allot five marlas of land to landless families affected by recent floods in the Union Territory.

Responding to a question by BJP MLA from Jammu North, Sham Lal Sharma, in the Assembly, the chief minister clarified that no new rehabilitation policy has been formulated for flood victims but assured that landless people will receive leased plots.

“Landless people affected by the flood will be given five marlas (one marla = 25.29 sq metres) of land on lease wherever available. The documentary process is already underway,” Omar Abdullah said.

Rejecting allegations of regional bias, he remarked, “The government does not indulge in regional politics like the member does.”

The chief minister informed the House that a central team, along with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, had visited the affected areas to assess the damage. “We found that losses were higher in the Jammu region than in Kashmir. A detailed damage assessment report has been prepared and sent to the Centre. Once funds are received, they will be disbursed without discrimination,” he added.

The initiative aims to provide permanent relief to flood-hit families, especially those without land, under the government’s ongoing rehabilitation efforts.
