Omar Abdullah Cabinet Approves R&B Promotions, Seeks Detailed Report on Daily Wagers

Cabinet clears R&B promotions, sets up Animal Protection Board; seeks urgent report on status of daily wagers

Kashmir, Dec 03 : The Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, met in Jammu on Wednesday morning and approved several key departmental proposals, including long-pending promotions in the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department and the establishment of the Animal Protection Board, officials said.

The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s Jammu residence around 9 am, reviewed a wide range of administrative matters related to governance, infrastructure and service delivery. Issues concerning electricity supply, reservation matters, and winter preparedness also featured in the discussions.

One of the major decisions included clearing promotions and finalising service related matters of officer cadres in the R&B Department. The Cabinet also sanctioned financial allocations aimed at strengthening cooperative societies supporting the livestock and fisheries sectors.

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Cabinet Minister Javed Rana said that several agenda items were approved with priority given to overdue administrative decisions.

“There were some minor issues that were discussed, but the main agenda involved the promotion and proposal of officers of the R&B Department. Their seniority confirmation has now been agreed,” he said.

Rana added that the government has also extended support to the pawns and anglers community by allocating funds to cooperative societies working in their interest. “These societies play an important role, and the Cabinet has sanctioned resources to strengthen them,” he said.

The Cabinet also approved the creation of the Animal Protection Board to streamline livestock welfare mechanisms and improve regulatory oversight.

Rana said the issue of daily wagers made its way into the discussions as well. “The Chief Secretary has been directed to submit a comprehensive report at the earliest. Daily wagers across various departments face serious issues, and the government has a responsibility to ensure justice,” he said.

The meeting concluded with directions to expedite pending departmental reports and ensure immediate implementation of the decisions taken, sources added.
