Omar Abdullah Calls for Timely J&K Elections Amid Rising Terror Threats

J&K Elections Crucial to Prove Security Forces' Supremacy, Asserts Omar Abdullah

Srinagar, 11-07-2024: Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the National Conference, emphasized the importance of holding assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir promptly to demonstrate the supremacy of security forces over terrorists, amidst recent spates of attacks in the region. Speaking at a party event, Abdullah highlighted that the current situation in the union territory does not reflect normalcy.

He challenged the government, questioning whether the circumstances are worse than those in 1996, and suggested that if security forces need to assert their supremacy over militant elements, elections should proceed as scheduled. Abdullah criticized any inclination to yield to these forces instead of affirming the authority of law enforcement agencies and armed forces.

Regarding bilateral cricket relations with Pakistan, Abdullah noted that bilateral series between the nations have been absent for several years, emphasizing that decisions such as those made by the BCCI regarding tournaments in Pakistan are internal matters.

He stressed that while India has its part to play in improving relations between the two countries, Pakistan holds greater responsibility to cease attacks and foster a conducive atmosphere for improved bilateral relations.

Abdullah also addressed concerns about the NEET examination, advocating for a swift resolution to alleviate uncertainty among youth about their future prospects. Additionally, he announced the National Conference’s commitment to include a comprehensive package for women in their election manifesto, aiming to enhance their societal status and involvement in Jammu and Kashmir’s development.
