Omar Abdullah Directs Officials to Speed Up Flood Damage Assessment and Restoration Efforts

Rapid Assessment and Restoration Key Focus After J&K Floods

Srinagar, Sep 22: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday directed all concerned departments to accelerate flood damage assessments and expedite restoration works across the region.

Recent heavy rains triggered flash floods in multiple rivers and drains, causing landslides, traffic disruptions, and significant damage to both public and private infrastructure. Earlier, Abdullah noted that the floods had destroyed around 330 bridges, 1,500 km of roads, and damaged numerous homes and agricultural fields.

“Chief Minister chaired a follow-up meeting on post-flood rehabilitation and relief. He directed departments to fast-track damage assessments, expedite restoration works, and ensure timely distribution of relief,” the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister’s Office said on X.

While most roads have reopened and connectivity has been largely restored, Abdullah instructed officials to prioritize reopening the remaining closed routes and ensure swift rehabilitation for affected communities.
