Omar Abdullah government’s performance commendable despite toughest challenges: Chowdry Ramzan

Restoration of Statehood Essential for Development, Effective Governance and Bureaucratic Accountability

Srinagar, 19 Aug: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Additional General Secretary and Rajya Sabha Member Chowdry Muhammad Ramzan Wednesday called upon party leaders, office-bearers and workers to strengthen their direct connect with the people and proactively take up their concerns with the government and concerned authorities for timely redressal.

Addressing a meeting at the party headquarters, Chowdry Ramzan said that the National Conference is a mass-based political movement rooted in public service.

He commended the performance of the Omar Abdullah-led government, saying that it assumed office amid exceptionally difficult circumstances, including financial and administrative constraints and a host of inherited challenges. Despite these limitations, he said, the government has remained focused on public welfare and development and has continued working to fulfil the commitments made to the people.

He said visible attention is being accorded to vital sectors including roads, electricity, drinking water, healthcare, education, urban amenities, infrastructure and employment. He added that the government’s initiatives reflect its commitment to addressing public concerns and improving the delivery of essential services.

Chowdry Ramzan urged party workers to take these people-oriented initiatives to the grassroots while at the same time ensuring that public grievances and aspirations are effectively conveyed to the government. He said workers should serve as a bridge between the people and the administration by identifying genuine issues, pursuing them with the concerned departments and using their influence to facilitate their resolution.

Emphasising the urgency of restoring statehood, he said it is indispensable for effective governance, accelerated development and meaningful administrative accountability in Jammu and Kashmir. He maintained that an elected government must have the requisite constitutional and administrative powers to respond swiftly to public needs, ensure greater accountability and implement developmental programmes efficiently.

He reiterated that the National Conference would continue its democratic, constitutional and political struggle for restoration of statehood and would not compromise on this legitimate demand.

He said public service has always been at the core of the National Conference’s politics and cannot be restricted to any particular period or circumstance. “A strong political organisation is one whose roots remain firmly embedded among the people and whose workers stand shoulder to shoulder with them in every difficult period,” he said.

Provincial President Showkat Ahmad Mir, Provincial Secretary Syed Tauqeer Ahmad, Convener Minority Cell Sardar Jagdish Singh Azad, Joint Secretary Ghulam Nabi Wani Tilbali and other office-bearers were also present at the meeting.
