Srinagar, 18-10-2024: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has allocated portfolios to the newly inducted ministers in the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah-led cabinet in Jammu and Kashmir, a move aimed at ensuring effective governance and streamlined administration. The official order, issued on the Chief Minister’s advice, defines the responsibilities of each minister in the newly formed cabinet.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary has been entrusted with the charge of multiple critical portfolios, including Public Works (R&B), Industries and Commerce, Mining, Labour and Employment, and Skill Development. These departments are pivotal to the region’s infrastructure development and economic growth, reflecting the government’s focus on enhancing public services and employment opportunities.
The only woman in the cabinet, Sakeena Masood (Itoo), has been given important ministries such as Health and Medical Education, School Education, Higher Education, and Social Welfare. Her previous experience as Social Welfare minister during Abdullah’s first tenure is expected to be instrumental in managing these key sectors, especially in the backdrop of ongoing educational reforms and healthcare upgrades.
Javed Ahmed Rana has been assigned the portfolios of Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment, and Tribal Affairs. His role will involve addressing water resource management and environmental sustainability issues, which are critical for the region’s long-term ecological balance.
Javid Ahmad Dar will oversee Agriculture Production, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Cooperative, and Election departments. These areas are vital for the economic empowerment of rural communities and for strengthening the democratic fabric through local governance.
Satish Sharma has been assigned the responsibility for departments including Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science and Technology, Information Technology, Youth Services and Sports, and ARI and Trainings. His broad portfolio reflects the government’s push for technology-led growth and youth engagement in sports and development initiatives.
The order also specifies that any departments or subjects not allocated to the ministers will remain under the charge of the Chief Minister himself. This strategic distribution of responsibilities is designed to foster a collaborative approach while ensuring that key areas receive focused attention.
